Master crafted from hand cut slab glass, SGW Glass Art is created with imagination and care. Unlike architectural applications of Dalle De Verre that set glass chunks in concrete or resin, solder is used to make unique pieces that are distinctly sculptural and beautifully faceted.
Dalle De Verre is the French term for slab of glass. My work is composed of Dalle De Verre shards. I am fascinated by the endless variety of shapes and colors inherent in this medium. Due to the facets resulting from chipping, it has brilliance and intensity of color that far exceeds ordinary flat pane stained glass.
My work can best be described as a fusion of stained glass and mosaic art.
I am the daughter of an artist who was commissioned at one time to create a large-scale glass project for a local church. I inherited his supply of Dalle De Verre glass chunks and just began working with it during the pandemic. I found that I could craft it into some amazing pieces.
My 2024 ArtPrize entry was a stained glass quilt displayed at the Gerald Ford Presidential Museum in Grand Rapids. Although it did not win an official award, Mix 95.7 placed this entry in their " 13 Must View Pieces" to see at ArtPrize this year and in the public voting for favorites, this piece was placed in the top 100 of the more than 1200 entries exhibited.
